The chimney swift is now a threatened species in Canada. While they traditionally nested in hollow trees, they adapted to nesting in masonry chimneys. However, in the last 40 years, the Canadian population of chimney swifts has dropped by 95 per cent, partially due to changes in chimney design. Learn about this unique bird, the challenges it faces, and the efforts Manitobans are taking to halt its decline.

Get the kids into backyard birding as they build their very own wooden feeder. They will learn about which birds are here and what they like to eat. Afterwards, we will go for a nature walk armed with binoculars and see what kind of birds are in the
FortWhyte forest.
