FortWhyte Alive is pleased to offer a special opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren to learn about Manitoba’s natural habitats and how you can do your part in sustaining them, while participating in a variety of activities, games, and crafts. Each week will incorporate an element of biodiversity which you can add to your backyard!

Shelter: Every creature needs a place to hide from predators, raise their young and take cover from harsh weather. Join us as we explore FortWhyte for different examples of shelter, play games, and decorate a wren nesting box to increase bird habitat in your own yard!

Have you ever felt uneasy about the idea of spending time in the great outdoors? Maybe it is time to become outdoor educated.Bring the whole family and build the skills and confidence you need to enjoy nature, whether it’s camping, snowmobiling, or a day out in the woods. Sessions include hands on practice. All materials are supplied by FortWhyte.

The Craft of Fire Building: Are you hopeless at starting a fire without petroleum products? Learn how to collect fire building materials, make a small efficient cooking fire, make a warm campfire and practice starting fires with a variety of fire-starting materials.
