I’m racing as an individual, but I don’t know how to kayak. Can I use a canoe instead?
No, all individuals must race in a kayak.
I don’t have any experience paddling. Can I still race?
FortWhyte recommends that all racers engage only in activities which they have an adequate level of experience and competency. Weather permitting, we will offer a padddling practice.
Can I find out what heat I’m in prior to the orientation evening?
Unfortunately, we are constantly adjusting and updating the heat lists, and they do not get finalized until just prior to the orientation dinner. Therefore we are unable to let you know in advance what heat you are in.
Can I request a specific heat?
You can specify yoru preferred heat on your registration form.
How do I get equipment between exchange zones?
Competitors may provide a support crew, however this years race course has been designed to accommodate a self-sufficient racer. More information will be available at the Pre-Race Orientation on Saturday, April 24.
What’s the time commitment on Saturday Night for the orientation and dinner?
You should plan on about 90 minutes for race package pick-up, dinner and the orientation. Dinner is served from 4:30–6pm and orientations take place at 5:30pm and 6:15pm. To speed up race package pick-up, please ensure you have filled out your waiver form prior to arrival at the registration table.
We are four individuals of the same gender. Can we enter as individuals and race together?
Yes, but you must follow the rules for the individual category, which includes completing the paddling portion in a kayak. You must also indicate on your registration form that you wish to be in the same heat.
When do the heats start?
Heat times are 8:30am and 9pm. Competitors should plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes prior to their start time.
How long does the race take?
Please Note: There is an all new race course for 2009, som times may differ from previous years. Approximate times for the 2009 race were as follows:
