Ever-Changing Ecology: Succession Science

The natural world is never static - the only constant factor is change! Evaluate FortWhyte’s ecological landscape in several stages of forest succession- from recently disturbed grassland to mature oak forest. Use a small sample area to investigate soil, plants and animal communities, and learn how fire is not always a negative thing. Find out how hard trees work to survive with a game of tree tag to cap off your visit.

Blue Planet

Discover the awesome power of water. It floods entire cities in a single spring melt, turns rocks into sand and keeps every organism on the planet alive. Experiment with water filtration and purification systems and see if you can clean our swamp water. Learn how to do your part to protect our water resources.
