Fees

  • Guided program (min. 15) $5.00/child

  • Fire pit rental $10.00/group
  • Supervising leaders & adults admitted FREE! - Maximum of 1 adult per 4 children.
  • Day and Night at FortWhyte overnight program - $50.00/Child, $30.00/Supervisor, (20% deposit required)
  • Nature Calls in the City overnight program - $25.00/Child, $10.00/supervisor, (20% deposit required)
  • Payment due upon arrival, (preferably by cheque).
  • Taxes included


Cancellation Policy

We do not cancel programs. On days with extreme weather conditions, indoor activities are provided to minimize outdoor time. Groups canceling at least 14 days ahead of their event will not be charged. All groups failing to show, or canceling within 14 days of the program will be charged 50%of the total fee. Overnight programs must provide a 20% non-refundable deposit at least 3 weeks in advance of program date.

Self-Guided Program

Design your own field trip! This is the perfect opportunity to go at your own pace. Your group can choose their own adventure or select the following free tools:

  • critter dipping supplies
  • animal track cards
  • scavenger hunts

Guided Day & Evening Programs

Programs Offered Tuesday-Thursday & Saturdays

Wilderness Survival - Ages 9 & up
All Year

Learn the essential skills needed to be prepared for any basic
survival situation in the wilderness, including shelter and fire
building, identifying edible wilds and direction finding.

Orienteering - Ages 9 & up
All Year

Groups will be given an introduction to map reading and an
overview of the sport of orienteering. They will then have the
chance to test their skills against FortWhyte’s permanent course
designed by the Manitoba Orienteering Association.

Natural Navigators - Ages 9 & up
All Year

Children will enjoy an interactive introduction to navigation and
navigation technology. This hands-on program teaches basic
map and compass skills, finding and travel skills, outdoor direction
and landmark reading.

Predator & Prey - Ages 9 & up
All Year, Saturday only

Play the game that animals play every minute of their lives! In this
exciting game of survival, you have to find food and water, escape
predators and endure the elements.

Sunset Goose Flights — Ages 9 & up
September–October

Come at sunset to witness an ancient migration ritual. In a
breathtaking display, thousands of geese will begin landing on our
lakes. Join us for an interpretive presentation to learn more about
these fascinating creatures.

Gifts of the North — Ages 8 & up
January–March

Canada’s Inuit have adapted their lifestyles to survive in the harsh
Arctic climate. Learn how they live off the land by hunting and
fishing and experience their culture by playing traditional Inuit
games. Strap on a pair of snowshoes for an adventure across the
frozen landscape.

Snowshoe Adventure — Ages 8 & up
January–March.

Discover nature as we explore the far reaches of FortWhyte’s
property by snowshoe. Practice your turning, climbing, running
and falling skills.

Bison & Bannock — Ages 6 & up
April–December.

Visit these prairie giants and discover their connection to
Manitoba’s cultural history. Sample traditional bannock, made the
old fashioned way - cooked over an open fire.

Wetland Wonders — Ages 6 & up
April–November

Bring your young naturalists for a hands-on exploration of plants
and animals that live in our wetlands. Discover the importance of
clean water to life at FortWhyte and the rest of the world.

From Farm to Fork – Ages 7 & up
July & August

Have you ever wondered where your food comes from and how it’s grown? These questions and more will be answered as you participate in an interactive urban farm experience. Explore the four season greenhouse and organic garden. Dig for worms and learn about our farm animals. Walk away with a new respect for farming, soil, and the importance of making sustainable choices.

Guided Overnight Programs

FortWhyte Alive’s fully equipped, energy efficient, Siobhan Richardson Field Station is the base for all overnight programs. Located on a beautiful, secluded lakeshore site, program participants will be immersed in the outdoors while exploring all that FortWhyte Alive has to offer.
