Winter Nature Day Camp
Wednesday, December 27, 2017 - Travelling Traders
Welcome to a time before cars and shopping malls – we will need to trek and trade for our goods today! Campers will learn about the Voyageurs in this day full of snowshoeing, learning to trade furs and fun voyageur games.
Thursday, December 28, 2017 - Surviving the Wild
Winter in Winnipeg is harsh, but won’t seem so daunting after a day of survival training! From shelter building to basic signalling, campers will leave FortWhyte Alive prepared for anything winter can throw at them.
Friday, December 29, 2017 - The Ultimate Winter Games
Ready, get set, SNOW! Campers will spend the day competing in a series of challenges, including toboggan slide distance, snow fort building and snowshoe races!
Wednesday, January 3, 2018 - Arctic Adventures
Campers will explore the Arctic's ecosystem and the people who live there. Polar bear blubber experiments, a fish dissection and a northern lights craft… oh my!
Thursday, January 4, 2018 - Nature Detectives
Where do the animals go during the winter? Whose footprints can you find in the snow? Campers will hunt for tracks and play predator and prey to investigate what animals are doing in the wintertime!
Friday, January 5, 2018 - Winter Camping
Campers will learn skills for camping in the winter as they build shelters and fires to keep them warm! A full (day) camp experience will be complete as they roast up some bannock and study the winter star-scape.
