You’ve made it a goal to spend more time outside this summer – now what? Introducing a line-up of inspired exploration to allow you connect, learn, and explore our intrinsic connection with the natural world. These self-guided experiences will help you see and interact with nature in a new way – and inspire you to keep looking for way to connect and do good for the planet, long after your visit.
Take part in various nature inspired activities, crafts, games, and exploration, and let your adventurous side come to life with us! Each week we will feature a different activity geared towards varying ages, helping you get connected with nature. This program is great for nature-newbies wanting to learn to get outside, and nature experts alike.

Saturday, July 21 - Nature Photo Challenge - Head outside with a photo challenge guide and see how many creative nature photos you can take! Tag @fortwhytealive on social media for your photo to be featured!
Saturday, July 28 - Orienteering Adventure - Grab an orienteering sheet and try your hand at navigating our NEW course using landmarks! If your family completes the course and figures out the secret word, you win a prize!
Saturday, August 4 - Sink and Float - Go on an adventure through the trails, collecting different natural items you find along the way! End your walk by putting the things you found in the water of the Floating Boardwalk Trail to see if they float or sink! Suggested things to collect include sticks, rocks, leafs, sand, pine needles and pine cones!
Saturday, August 11 - Potato Stamps - Hang out with a craft leader, and try your hand at using locally sourced potatoes to create stamps! Make your own art project using your new stamp.
Saturday, August 18 - Measuring Biodiversity – Help FortWhyte Alive by becoming a citizen scientist! Explore the fields, marshes, lakes and forests of FortWhyte Alive, and record all the species of plants and animals you see on our worksheet! Calculate a “biodiversity index”, and hand in this sheet at the front desk to receive a fun prize for participating!
Saturday, August 25 - Critter Dipping and Discovery Recording - Explore the ponds and marshes of FortWhyte Alive, dipping for critters along the way. Look at the critters, and observe different characteristics about them using our guided sheet! Head back to the Interpretive Centre, and try and identify these critters under the microscope, using a critter identification key.
