FortWhyte Alive's 50th Anniversary!
Join us for a full day of family fun at our 50th anniversary party, with live entertainment, environmental workshops and exciting outdoor activities. Help us celebrate the planet with lessons in sustainability, special programming at FortWhyte Farms and a chance to explore the site at no cost - admission is free all day!

Live Musical Performance by Al Simmons: 2 pm
Take in a performance by Juno Award-winning children’s performer Al Simmons at the Family Stage.
Storytime with Patty: 12 - 2 pm
Join Kids’ CBC host Patty, along with a couple of her friends, for story time at Loly Lookout!
Orienteering: 11 - 3 pm
Build your map reading skills through landmark orienteering! Pick up a map behind the Alloway Reception Centre and explore the sights of FortWhyte.
Learn about Nature Day Camp: 12 - 3 pm
Play a few camp games and learn more about FortWhyte Alive's Nature Day Camps, for campers ages 4-13 and camp counsellors ages 14 and older.
Archery + Atl Atl: 12 - 3 pm
Take aim with these traditional projectiles, our instructors are here to help the beginner in your family! Located between FortWhyte Alive Farms and the Alloway Reception Centre.
Bannock Bake (while supplies last): 12 - 3 pm
There is nothing more delicious than freshly roasted bannock. Head over to Loly Lookout!
Dipnetting: 10 - 4 pm
Join our volunteer interpreters on the boardwalk and discover wetland wildlife.
Guided Bison Hikes: 12:15 - 3 pm
Join an interpreter on the North Trails and learn about the history of Bison on the prairies. Meet at the Red River Cart.
BBQ Lunch & Snacks: 11 am - 3 pm
Concessions can be found on the South deck of the Interpretive Centre.
Voyageur Games: 12 - 3 pm
Learn to play some fun games based on activities the voyageurs would do to pass their time! Meet at Loly Lookout.
Craft station with Art City: 12 - 2 pm
Located behind the Interpretive Centre, join Art City in creating a 50th anniversary time capsule that we will hide away at FortWhyte Alive for another 50 (or so) years!
Puppet Show: 12 pm
Located in the main theatre of the Interpretive Centre.
Face Painting: 12 - 3 pm
Located at spiral staircase behind the Interpretive Centre.
Weather Station - 12 – 2 pm
Join CBC Manitoba’s John Sauder in the Interpretive Centre to learn all about the weather!
Family Birding Hike: 10:30 - 12:30 pm
Learn about our feathery friends and even catch a glimpse of them with our birding interpreters. Walks depart from the toboggan slide.
Geocaching: 1 - 3 pm
Learn the basics of geocaching and take part in our course at the marsh overlook.
Sod House Pioneers: 12 - 4 pm
Take a step into the past and join our Pioneers in the sod house.
Voyageur Canoe Rides: 12 - 4 pm
Show us your best impression of a Voyageur and paddle your heart out! Weather (and ice) dependent at Loly Lookout.
Tire & Battery Recycling with CAA Manitoba: 10 - 4 pm
Bring your old tires and batteries and leave them with CAA Manitoba who will take care of the sustainable recycling for you.
Urban Mine: 10 - 4 pm
Bring your e-waste and let Urban Mine recycle it responsibly. The planet will thank you!
FortWhyte Farms: 11 - 3 pm
Urban farming demonstrations: Learn about beekeeping, natural plant dye, vermicomposting, pastured laying hens, rabbits and pigs and starting seeds.

Nature Day Camp
Learn all about our popular Nature Day Camp. Expand your child’s horizons with a summer camp experience complete with canoeing, hiking, outdoor adventure, and more -- all while staying close to home. We're also recruiting camp counsellors, for youth ages 14 and up looking for volunteer and work experience.
By bike: Get active! Get sustainable! Take part in a group bike ride to FortWhyte Alive with Bike Winnipeg (complete details at www.bikewinnipeg.ca) and park your bike in the free bike valet. As part of our 50th anniversary celebration, and to encourage active transportation, the first 50 visitors to use the valet will receive a one-year family membership to FortWhyte Alive!
By bus: We are once again offering free Winnipeg Transit service to the event with pick-ups at Kildonan Place (11:00 am) St. Vital Mall (11:30 am) University of Winnipeg (11:00 am) and Polo Park Mall (11:30 am). All buses will depart FortWhyte Alive at 3:30 pm. First-come, first-served.
By car: Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Let's celebrate the planet!
