FortWhyte Alive will be screening a 12 Stars Media Documentary, "Finding Hygge". Hygge has exploded in popularity amidst growing division and distrust around the world, but the Danish word and its definition are more complicated than it seems. For those who seek happiness, this exploratory documentary travels around the globe to discover the true meaning of hygge and how to find it. Learn about this concept, and connect with cast member and hygge enthusiast Dayna Robbie in discovering ways to create hygge around you.

Manitoba Mystery Co. Presents: “Case at the Edge of the Woods”

A theatrical murder mystery experience in the woods at FortWhyte Alive.

Join the Manitoba Mystery Company and FortWhyte Alive in solving the Case at the Edge of the Woods. Look and listen for clues, explore the woods, and do your part to help solve the mystery of a true story that took place in Riding Mountain National Park almost a century ago.


Synopsis 

One park warden. One missing page from a park logbook. One gunshot ringing through the night. One team of investigators. One person who knows what truly happened.

In the fall of 1943, the Park Warden, Eddie Kendrick is brutally murdered in his study after an evening of socializing with friends. Inspector Buchanan is determined to make things right. Hunters have taken up house in town for the winter, and medical interns are stationed nearby due to the War. Inspector Buchanan must unravel this mystery before the killer strikes again.

Goose Flights Photography Workshop

Learn the craft of taking wildlife photos that take your breath away.

Learn the basics of wildlife photography with professional photographer Walter Potrebka, of Walter Potrebka Photography. This exploratory, hands-on workshop is designed to for you to learn the basics of exposure, composition and focus, among other topics. Bring your own camera and lenses*, and head outside to snap shots of geese as they land on Lake Devonian.

After the workshop, you’ll have opportunity to have your photos reviewed and critiqued by Walter, and he will be able to provide you with further tips and tricks to get the perfect shot.

Join Kendra Hobbs-Manness of Black Thistle Creative in the forest to learn to the basics of this trendy textile art by weaving your own wall hanging. You’ll learn six basic weaving techniques and get creative blending different yarn textures and natural elements. All materials are provided.

The Story of Winnipeg’s Canada Geese

Find out how wildlife management decisions brought this subspecies back from close to disappearance in the 1940's, to their now immensely abundant numbers.

Ken Cudmore, Site Manager at FortWhyte Alive for 35 years, will share his experiences and perspectives as he unveils the detailed accounts on the recovery of Winnipeg's Canada Goose population.
