The Great Backyard Bird Count

February 17 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Learn the basics of identifying the most common winter birds!

Take in a short presentation to learn the ins and outs of identifying common winter birds around FortWhyte Alive, then head out on a walk with an experienced birder to identify the birds you see! You will gain the basic knowledge to be able to continue the bird count in your own backyard.

This event is NOT an official count location but will provide you with the information you need to participate in the future.

The Great Backyard Bird Count was the first online participatory science project to collect data on wild birds and to display results in near real-time. Birds Canada joined the project in 2009 and in 2013, it became a global project when they began entering data into eBird, the world’s largest biodiversity-related participatory science project.
