Enjoy nature’s best nestled within the urban boundaries of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Inject your visit with fresh air, outdoor activity, wildlife, cultural heritage, and environmental education. Our Ecotours are flexible and designed to fit your group's busy travel itinerary. Programs are available for all seasons with alternative activity provided for inclement weather.

A Prairie Legacy:
The Bison and its People
A Canadian Tourism Signature Experience

Discover how the bison influenced the history of Manitoba and the lives of the people of the prairies.

This immersive 3-hour tour combines a Bison Safari, Voyageur Canoe Experience, a tour along FortWhyte's Storied People's Trail with stops at the Pioneer Sod House and Tipi Encampment, as well as wild tea and bannock over the fire.

A truly wild ride!
Venture inside FortWhyte Alive’s bison prairie for an up-close encounter you’ve got to see to believe.

This 1-hour tour takes you on adventure into our prairie past. Encounter North America's largest land mammal in its natural habitat, from just a few short meters away aboard our bison bus. Learn more about these incredible beasts and their fascinating history in Manitoba.

 

  

 

Feathers to fur (NEW)

A wildlife experience for all the senses!

Get to know of North America’s smallest and biggest wildlife up close, and let experienced naturalist-guides take care of the details of your day! FortWhyte Alive and Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre are proud partners in offering:

  • The feeling of feathers flutter in your hand as you participate in bird-banding research
  • The sights and smells of wildflowers over water as you glide through the marsh in historic-style voyageur canoe
  • Experience the sights, sounds, and even smells of FortWhyte Alive’s urban bison herd
  • Taste wild herb tea and fire-roasted bannock

Breakfast at Oak Hammock Marsh and lunch at FortWhyte Alive round out the day.

Feathers To Fur further includes bus transportation from FortWhyte Alive to Oak Hammock Marsh and back, letting you sit back and enjoy all day long!

A Bird in the Hand - Oak Hammock Marsh

This experience creates an intimate connection with nature where visitors hold a wild bird as they are released after banding. This ritual allows them to participate in an important facet of North American research that has been taking place for more than 100 years.
