There is no denying that this has been a beautiful winter. But as February draws closer, so does March, and then April. Winter will be gone before we know it, so we're doing what we can to make the most of these bright, beautiful winter days.
At FortWhyte Alive, that means celebrating #wintervibes all day, every day.
1. Get your dose of adrenaline and adventure
For those unafraid of the elements, we've got a few awesome winter races in store for you this month. First up is our inaugural Frozen Fiver 5 and 10 k race through FortWhyte Alive's snowy forest trails. Later in the month is the fun Nordic Walking Prediction Challenge, followed by another FortWhyte first -- the Winter Family Adventure Race, presented by Ground UP - Adventures North.
This month, we've got a race for every age, skill level and interest. What are are you waiting for?
2. Hit the trails
While there is always a lot going on in terms of special events and workshops, we can't forget about all the amazing experiences you can take in at FortWhyte Alive, anytime. Whether you head out on skis, snowshoes or simply on foot, our trails are always open for exploration, seven days a week (and if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a sleepy porcupine!). This is what winter is all about.
3. Bundle up to catch the big one
Ice fishing is another quintessential winter activity. But many of us don't have the tools or the knowledge to head out on the lake alone. At FortWhyte, however, we provide the auger, rods and tackle (along with a little advice) -- which means all you have to do is show up. (Click here for equipment rental rates.)
4. Celebrate St. Valentine and Louis Riel
If you ask us, any of the outdoor adventures listed above would make a great Valentine's Day date. But the love doesn't stop there. On offer we've got horse-drawn sleigh rides, Dr. Heather Hinam's special presentation about the birds and the bees, and an extra special Valentine's Dinner at the Buffalo Stone Cafe -- all back by popular demand.
Make FortWhyte Alive your destination for winter family fun on Louis Riel Day. Louis Riel Day festivities include voyageur games and a bannock roast over bonfire. Don't forget to get in some tobogganing!
5. Prepare for spring
If winter really isn't your cup of tea... well, we won't judge. Warm up in our passive solar greenhouse and enjoy the smell of fresh soil, the ultimate sign of spring. Two opportunities to get gardening on your mind include workshops to help you plan your veggie garden and start your own seeds, both at FortWhyte Farms this month.
