FortWhyte Alive

June Top 5

We can't even believe it. Our forests are looking lush and the air is smelling sweet. Summer is here!

We have so many amazing summer experiences lined up for you this month, and the fun continues through to July and August. If there was ever time to settle in and take a good long look at the FortWhyte Alive summer programming calendar, this is it. There's something in there for everyone!

Here are just a few great things you can take in this month at FortWhyte.

1. Hit the trails

Summer is the perfect time to get out on the trail and clock some kilometers. And if you didn't already know, our site is big, and our network of trails takes you through a diverse range of forest, wetland and tall grass prairie in what amounts to over 7 km of trails. With so much to see and experience, a great way to cover ground is on two wheels. Load up your own bike (better yet, leave the car at home!) or rent one from our fleet of cruiser bikes.

We're also happy to announce that this summer, all new and renewing FortWhyte Alive Members will be gifted with a complimentary bike rental to cruise around FortWhyte in style. Just another great reason to join the community.

2. Go beyond the gates

They're back! Our ever-popular Bison Safaris are back for another season. Climb aboard and go beyond the gates, deep into our bison prairie to experience your first up-close encounter with a herd of grunting, munching bison. These striking animals are stoic, hairy and huge. But don’t take our word for it -- you’ve got to see it to believe it. Add a Bison Safari to your summer bucket list and then visit fortwhyte.org/bisonsafaris to book your experience today.

3. Visit the farm

There is so much happening this month at FortWhyte Farms! Whether you're hoping to learn more about raising laying hens or rabbits in your backyard, make and take your own ceramic garden markers, or find solace and healing in the medicine garden, there really is something at the farm everyone this June.

4. Get out on the water

It's time to get out on the water! Open Paddle is back for another season of canoeing and kayaking at sunset at FortWhyte Alive. Canoes and kayaks are available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis with help from the experts at Wilderness SupplyOpen Paddle runs every Tuesday at Thursday evening, all summer long.

The annual MEC Paddlefest is happening once again this year and is great opportunity for those looking to explore all things on the water -- including canoeing, kayaking, SUP and more. It all happens this Sunday, June 5 and admission is free all day!

5. Just breath

As summer ramps up, June can oftentimes be a hectic month. If you're looking for a quiet place to unplug and get away from it all, we've got another installment of Cabin Yoga and, new this year, Mom and Baby Yoga, Sunrise & Sunset SUP and Treehouse Meditation -- four truly unique self-care experiences in the great outdoors.

Let's start summer off right, shall we? Check out fortwhyte.org/events for more great happenings, or simply drop by for a bite or a drink on our lakeside patio and take it from there. See you soon!
