Hello, my name is Jaden, and this is my 4th summer working here at The Farm.

I enjoy being at The Farm and interacting with everyone at The Farm, everyone is so nice and friendly and it makes me want to keep coming back. I am looking forward to seeing how well all the produce turns out this year. It will probably taste amazing! It is a really good feeling to see how much growth the plants have, and getting to see that growth progress over time.
The Farm has largely impacted me over the years, teaching me many skills, such as cooking, carpentry, leadership, and many more. It is nice getting to do many different things at The Farm. Every day feels like a new fresh day, as there is always something different to do. The Farm has also helped me improve and gain more confidence in some of my skills that were less developed.

This year at The Farm has been a lot different because of COVID-19. It is somewhat weird getting used to all the new protocols and all of the change on how things are done. Unfortunately, we do not have as many staff as previous years, it’s sad to not have as many friendly faces around, but we’ll still get everything done!
This year I am taking the role of Crew Leader at The Farm, there are a few new tasks for me to fulfill, and a lot more leadership-related skills being applied this year, but thankfully I still get to do some weeding on 30°C+ days.

At FortWhyte Farms we grow youth, food, and community.
In the garden and in the commercial kitchen youth learn about responsible land stewardship, food systems, and waste reduction as they build communication, teamwork, and money management skills. They are our most valuable ‘crop’ – youth who are engaged citizens and climate change leaders.
