SOD HOUSE INTERPRETERS

Are you interested in homesteader life? Why not consider an interpretive role in the prairie sod house, guiding visitors in their journey to a time when people’s connection to the natural world was a matter of survival? Two Sunday shift per month.

FORTWHYTE FARMS PROGRAM MENTOR

Program engages diverse youth in hands-on urban agriculture projects. Do you enjoy engaging with youth? This is a weekly 2-3 hour commitment with either a daytime or evening group – from September to December with choice of day. Training provided.

SCHOOL PROGRAM LEADER

Be part of the magic of a child's field trip to FortWhyte Alive. Energy, people skills, enthusiasm and training is the secret to success. Commitment is one-half day per week for fun interactive school programs at varied levels. Training is provided.

FIRE & TAFFY TENDERS

How does directing children while they roll taffy poured on snow, bake bannock or roast marshmallows on a stick sound? The time commitment is daytime, any day Monday through Friday for a minimum three-hour shift.

FOREST SCHOOL ASSISTANT

Spark engagement between children and nature by modelling your enthusiasm for outdoor play and then step back to observe the connections that unfold! Weekday shifts throughout the year in 12-week sessions. Morning and afternoon shifts available.

BIRDING WALK LEADER

If you’re a bird connoisseur, a little training at the beginning of the season will prepare you to guide groups of novice birders and enjoy a morning breakfast with them. Walks begin at the end of August and continue every throughout the fall.

After university, I was looking for a job and unsure of how to put my science degree to good use. As a school program volunteer, I am educating, inspiring and encouraging kids to be more sustainable — it’s super rewarding to be on the front lines of social change.
