SOD HOUSE INTERPRETERS

Are you interested in homesteader life? Why not consider an interpretive role in the prairie sod house, guiding visitors in their journey to a time when people’s connection to the natural world was a matter of survival?

FIRE & TAFFY TENDERS

More of a behind-the-scenes type? How does directing children while they roll taffy poured on snow, bake bannock or roast marshmallows on a stick sound? The time commitment is daytime, any weekday for a minimum three-hour shift.

BIRDING WALK LEADER

Are you a closet birder looking for kindred spirits? If you’re a bird connoisseur, a little training at the beginning of the season will prepare you to lead groups of novice birders.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKI LEADERS

Do you enjoy moonlit cross-country skiing on groomed trails? Consider joining our team! Volunteers are needed to lead participants on a guided trek through the forest, on the lookout for wildlife along the way. Evening and weekend shifts available.

SNOWSHOE HIKE LEADERS

Are you looking for fresh air, outdoor exercise and adventure on weekends? If you have initiative, energy, enthusiasm and people skills, you can take on this role! Commitment is 2 hours on Saturday mornings January and February.

FOREST SCHOOL ASSISTANT

Being outside with children is the happiest place on earth! If you love winter hikes, warm fires, and watching the magic through the eyes of a child, you're in the right place. Time commitment is once a week with a choice of 3, 4 or 6-hour shifts.

FORTWHYTE FARMS PROGRAM ASSISTNAT

You should enjoy working with diverse youth, model positive behaviours and contribute to community and sustainability initiatives on hands-on projects. This is a weekly 2-3 hour commitment in either the day or evening, from February to June.

CAMP COUNSELLORS (YOUTH AGES 14-19)

Being a Camp Counsellor is a wonderful opportunity for youth to learn about working with children, keeping camp safe, nature training, volunteer professionalism and customer service. Online Applications open April 1, 2024.

After university, I was looking for a job and unsure of how to put my science degree to good use. As a school program volunteer, I am educating, inspiring and encouraging kids to be more sustainable — it’s super rewarding to be on the front lines of social change.
