We were excited to welcome participants back to FortWhyte Alive on Thursday, July 23, for the second annual FortWhyte Chase—an evening packed with teamwork, adventure, and unforgettable challenges.
Now in its second year, the FortWhyte Chase is a fast-paced evening where teams complete missions around FortWhyte’s campus. Teams had to move quickly as there was only a two-hour window to complete all 76 missions.
To participate in the game, participants formed teams of 2-5 people and downloaded the Goosechase app on their smartphones. Throughout the evening, teams were given a series of challenges, with each challenge worth a different number of points. To complete the challenges, teams took photos or videos of themselves completing the challenge.
FortWhyte Chase takes the best part of The Amazing Race and makes it into a fun night for everyone involved! Each team had three legs of the competition to complete.
After a team finished one leg of the race, they received a clue on their phone. This clue led them to a station where they solved a puzzle to get a code that unlocked the next part of the game.
With teams racing around FortWhyte, the atmosphere was full of energy, excitement, and fun as they tackled challenges like parkour, piggyback rides, and canoeing.
Throughout the game, teams had the chance to complete bonus missions for extra points—but these challenges were anything but easy. One of the most popular bonus missions this year was the Where’s Waldo? challenge. Our longtime volunteer, Andy, disguised himself in Waldo’s signature striped shirt and hat and hid somewhere around FortWhyte Alive. Teams had to keep their eyes peeled and track him down before they could claim the bonus!
The evening wrapped up with music, dancing, and great company on the lakeside patio at Buffalo Crossing, where guests enjoyed delicious food from King Cole Catering Company and beverages from One Great City Brewing Co. and roasted marshmallows by the fire.
The evening also served as an official launch of the Sunlit Shell Citrus Pale Ale, the latest collaboration between Fortwhyte Alive and One Great City Brewing Co. Sunlit Shell is available now in liquor marts.
Special thanks to our Public Programs Department for organizing an unforgettable event as well as the numerous volunteers who helped with every aspect of the Chase.
Lastly, we want to thank everyone who participated this year and joined us for this fun-filled evening! We were thrilled to see so many creative costumes, teamwork and fun had by all.
