Paddling

Explore our lakes aboard a canoe, discovering wildlife along the way.

Lake life in the city

Relax with the sun on your shoulders and the sound of your paddle cutting the water. Paddling is a fun, active way to explore our lakes and spot wildlife, all while escaping the noise of the city.

Discovering FortWhyte Alive from the water provides a new perspective of the forest and trails that surround the lakes. Float alongside birds taking flight, watch the fish below, or view the deer on the trails at a distance. On the water, you’ll feel the stresses of day-to-day life melt away.

Cost

Access to our trails and lakes are included with general admission and is free for FortWhyte Alive members.

Check out our gear rentals for watercraft options.

This experience is offered in summer

Good to Know

  • Paddlers are required to wear a life jacket, provided by FortWhyte Alive.
  • Each rental comes with a safety kit.
  • To prevent invasive species contaminating our lakes, we do not allow paddlers to use their own watercraft or life jacket.
  • Check-in with Visitor Reception for water conditions.
  • We make kayaks and stand up paddleboards available for special programming. See the calendar for upcoming activities.
