To celebrate the BBQ's 30th anniversary, we're chatting with some of our community champions. We caught up with long-time supporter Nancy Cipryk to ask about her support for the community.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a long-time friend of FortWhyte! I have been serving on the Sunset BBQ organizing
committee for over 20 years, and have spent six years on the board of trustees. I love FortWhyte, and so do my kids!
Tell us a little bit about the Sunset BBQ. What sets it apart from other fundraising events?
The dinner is the signal that summer is here. The event itself is really something special. I don’t know of any other fundraising galas that take place next to a lake! It’s a great group of people enjoying a drink and a first class meal immersed in nature. We attract people from all ages and all walks of life. It’s a great way to connect and meet people in the community. Some of our supporters have been coming for 20 plus years!
Why do you support FortWhyte Alive?
We are teaching people how to be kind to our environment and look after our planet. People, young and old. It’s so important -- and we need to make sure that even kids and families who can't afford to get there get the opportunity to get there and have those foundational experiences in nature.
What is it that makes FortWhyte special?
It is an amazing place. It is like going to the lake. Winnipeg is extremely lucky to have this little gem in the heart of the city. Time slows down and you can appreciate your surroundings, the sounds, smells, animals etc. It is good for the soul. A lot of people don’t realize that FortWhyte is a private charity. We need to work hard to fund it and the programs to ensure generations to come can enjoy.
