Tobogganing at FortWhyte Alive

Get ready to race past the treetops and out onto frozen Lake Devonian! The Richardson Rrrun toboggan slide is a favourite in the city of Winnipeg for kids, and kids at heart, to have a toboggan ride to remember.

If you want to reach record distances as you race down a toboggan slide the Richardson Rrrun should be at the top of your list. Climb the stairs to the top and hop on a toboggan to race over the main pathway, soar between the trees, and shoot straight out onto the frozen top of Lake Devonian.

There’s no better way to embrace the winter than tobogganing!

Toboggans are free!

To make sure you have the best (and safest) experience on the toboggan slide FortWhyte offers toboggans that are free to use, and best for our specific slide. You are welcome to bring your own sled but please check with our staff before using it on the Richardson Rrrun to make sure its safe to use. Best of all there are no reservations needed! When you arrive at the toboggan run you’ll be greeted by our toboggans all resting at the stairs to the top of the slide.

Ideal Conditions

Never been tobogganing before? The good news is that almost every type of weather is perfect for tobogganing. In the city of Winnipeg, weather can be unpredictable in the winter months, but whether it’s freezing or a sunny winter day it is a perfect time to zoom down a toboggan slide. No special clothing or equipment is needed to head down the Richardson Rrrun but winter wear like snow pants, a winter coat, mitts and a hat are recommended so you stay dry in the snow.

Hours of Operation

The Richardson Rrrun is open throughout the winter months from around mid-December to early March while the ice on Lake Devonian is thick enough to be safe for riders to slide onto. The Rrrun is always open during FortWhyte Alive’s regular hours of operation and can also be enjoyed during evening and special events.

The Buffalo Stone Café

Racing down toboggan runs can build up an appetite. When you’re done ripping down the slide head to the Buffalo Stone Café for delicious food, friendly service, and their fan-favourite hot chocolate to help you warm up. Then head out onto the deck and watch as other riders make their own tobogganing memories flying down the slide.
