Lake Shaker: 2024 Recap

Posted on March 5, 2024

After weeks of wondering if winter would finally land in Winnipeg, cooler temperatures arrived just in time for this year’s Lake Shaker.

And 2024 might just have been the best one yet.

On March 2, FortWhyte Alive welcomed over 225 visitors for an evening of dancing, drinks, music and games – all in support of environmental education!

Not only does the cost of your ticket support essential environmental education programming, but thanks to the amazing people at One Great City Brewing, this year your beer did good too.

This year’s Lake Shaker raised over $7,135 for hands-on environmental education!

This year’s Lake Shaker featured activities like Atlatl, hatchet throwing, giant games, tobogganing, owl prowl and howl walks (the FortWhyte way of saying a guided walk to look for owls or listen for howls), fire-starting competitions, and more.

This year the Lake Shaker also welcomed some amazing partners to run activities:

Kendrick’s Outdoor Adventures was running fat-tire bike rides up our North trail. An activity that was so popular they ran for an extra hour!

The Manitoba Wildlife Federation was down on Lake Devonian challenging you to a casting contest.

Walker Rambo braved the wind to run campfire singalongs on the patio behind the Richardson Interpretive Centre.

FortWhyte Farms ran a vegetable and seed guessing game.

And DJ K Chedda kept the party going with music all night long!

The Lake Shaker was also doubly special this year because it was also the launch party for One Great City Brewing Company’s brand new Frosty Bison beer – in support of FortWhyte Alive!

That means your drink purchase not only supports an amazing local business but also creates opportunities for Manitoba’s students here at FortWhyte. The can even features a snow-dusted bison like you might see at FortWhyte and the text on the can might even teach you something.

If you loved the Frosty Bison beer, be sure to visit your local Liquor Mart because it is now available in select stores while supplies last!

Thank you to our 21 volunteers for making this night possible and to the staff at the Buffalo Stone Café for serving delicious food and drinks all night.

Thank you also goes to FXR Racing for being our fireside sponsor and to YOU.

Without you, these fundraising events wouldn’t be possible, and we appreciate everything you did to support this event from buying a ticket, sharing it on social media, and telling your friends.
