A Heartfelt Thank You!

Posted on January 11, 2018

This holiday season, our goal was to turn Hope into Action by raising $100,000 for our environmental education programs at FortWhyte Alive.

With the generosity of donors, members, and visitors like you, we exceeded our goal, raising a grand total of $106,868! This will make it possible for over 30,000 school children to access more than 40 hands-on, inspirational school programs in 2018.

FortWhyte Alive Site Manager of over 34 years, Ken Cudmore and his daughter, representing the next generation of FortWhyte Alive stewards.

In practical terms, this means:

  • High school students will gain experience using scientific equipment through hands-on sampling during “Freshwater Ecology Day”, and will learn about areas important to our environment from experts in the field.
  • Students in Grade 6 through 12 will develop their outdoor safety skills by learning to start fires, orienteer and build shelters throughout the seasons.
  • New Canadians will learn how to enjoy and ‘sur-thrive’ in our cold weather by having some of their first winter experiences skating, tobogganing and enjoying bannock roasted on the open fire, while learning about winter clothing and survival.
  • Children of all ages will continue to explore our trails, wetlands and forest for the signs of changing seasons – getting their hands dirty discovering the fascinating natural world.

All of this is possible because of your belief in our mission and mandate and the generosity of our community of supporters.

Thank you for inspiring change in future generations!
