Staged outdoors on FortWhyte’s beautiful lakeside plaza, the Sunset BBQ stands out as our signature fundraiser. The Sunset BBQ has earned a reputation for its unforgettable prizes, relaxed vibe, and undeniably unique setting.
To celebrate the BBQ's 30th anniversary, we're chatting with some of our community champions. We caught up with the Pearson/Pollard family to ask about their support for the community.
Tell us a little about who you are.
We are parents of three children, ages 11, 9 and 7 who are members of FortWhyte Alive. Doug was on the board at FortWhyte for a number of years. We are a family that enjoys the outdoors!
Tell us a little bit about the Sunset BBQ. What sets it apart from other fundraising events?
We attend many charity fundraising events in Winnipeg throughout the year, but the Sunset BBQ is one of our favourites. It is outside, looking over the lake as the sun sets and the geese fly in. Sailboats are sailing while we eat a truly delicious dinner in this beautiful setting.
How long have you been involved with FortWhyte Alive?
We have been members for more than 10 years but Doug’s mother Fran Pollard was a volunteer for many years before that. You could say FortWhyte is in our genes.
Why do you support FortWhyte Alive?
FortWhyte is a centrally-located nature refuge that can provide our family and many others access to green space. The programs offered are incredibly dynamic and educational for all — not just children. FortWhyte’s programming pulls very important societal issues together in a fun and memorable manner.
Join us for the 30th Sunset BBQ at FortWhyte Alive happening Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Get your tickets at fortwhyte.org/sunsetbbq.
