Finish Your Summer Bucket List at FortWhyte Alive

Posted on August 10, 2022

As fall gets closer you might be looking back on the summer wishing you’d done more. Taken more photos, visited more places, tried more things – to make summer memorable.

Go for a hike. Cast a line. Enjoy drinks on a patio. Shop local. Catch a fish. Have a picnic.

These are the classic summer experiences that allow you to enjoy warm days outside, but with the days passing so quickly how do you finish your summer bucket list?

You could plan a list of evening and weekend trips – or you can do it all at FortWhyte Alive.

Make the most of the remaining summer days and finish your summer bucket list all at once. Follow our plan below or make your own adventure, either way you’ll have a perfect day in the sun.

9:30AM – Take a Trail Hike

Start your day with a trail hike through 7km of marsh, forest, and prairie lands. As you explore you will find endless opportunities to connect with nature. From overlooking the bison in the Saturn Family Treehouse to the forest floor in the Meditation Grove there are many special spots to discover.

12:00PM – Have a Picnic & Drinks

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, pull out a picnic (hello charcuterie!) and enjoy a photo worthy spread at Loly Lookout, FortWhyte Alive’s picnic shelter on the lake. Not in the mood to pack a lunch? Head over to the Buffalo Stone Cafe and enjoy a meal on the patio overlooking Lake Devonion, where you can also enjoy local beers by Good Neighbour Brewing Co. or Winnipeg Brew Werks.

1:30PM – Go fishing

Grab a friend and hit the water for an experience of your choice. Rent some fishing gear and try your hand at fishing to see what you reel in. Please note that during fall migration season, fishing is restricted to Cargill Lake.

End your day with a stop at the Nature Shop to browse everything from clothes, decor, food, pottery, etc. – all sourced with sustainability in mind! You can even find many local brands like dconstruct jewelry, Gourmet Inspirations, Northlore Goods, among others!

Giftshop featuring a variety of local and sustainable products.

Complete your day with even more summer experiences!

Attend one of our programs or events to cross even more off your list like campfires, hatchet throwing, live music, and bannock roasting!
