It was an amazing evening of friends and laughter as the foggy embrace of frozen Lake Devonian rolled in.
The 2023 Lake Shaker was one to remember.
And a night that, thanks to you, means countless students will benefit from hands-on environmental education at FortWhyte Alive.

On March 4th, FortWhyte welcomed over 400 people for a sold out night of frozen fun and we’re proud to say raised over $11,500 in support of environmental education.

Throughout the night guests enjoyed some Lake Shaker classics like hatchet throwing, fire starting competitions, ice games, s’mores, tobogganing, the stardome, and dancing. The fan favourite owling hikes returned with what our interpreters are calling the most successful owling hikes ever, with owls found just moments into the first walk of the night.

We were also excited to offer some new activities like the Letter Peddler Press where you could design and create a postcard with a variety of stamps, and for the first time we welcomed our very own FortWhyte Farms who had keychains on hand for you to hammer symbols and letters onto keychains to create your custom design (in support of the farms’ work as a social enterprise).
The night ended with music spun by a FortWhyte regular, DJ Lil Win, and with draws for six amazing raffle prizes. Your support of the raffle was so overwhelming we ran out of tickets twice and had to scramble to find more.

Thank you to our generous bar sponsors Capital K Distillery and Patent 5 Distillery for supporting this event and for having amazing products for the Spruce Catering bars to offer. Thanks to our friends and partners who supported this event by donating raffle prizes.
Thank you to our outstanding team of volunteers who helped with check in, selling raffle tickets, running games and activities, setting up and cleaning up, and so much more! You are the heart of FortWhyte.
Most importantly, thank you.
Your ticket purchase is what makes everything we do possible.
Happy Lake Shaking and we will see you in 2024!
